About Me
Christine Walter
M.Ed., CCC, RP
Hello! I’m Christine. As a therapist, I am very down-to-earth, and my approach collaborative, compassionate, empathic, inclusive, and non-judgmental. I strive to help you identify what is important to you, to work with you in finding ways to help you move towards the life you aspire to. Together we figure out what goals you have in mind and what you are looking for out of therapy, and revisit these along the way. As we change, sometimes our goals and dreams evolve, which means we may need to as well.
And whether you are coming in with set goals or are not quite sure where to begin, I will provide a warm and open environment for you to explore, process, and grow. Our sessions will be an opportunity to slow down and start the process of untangling thoughts, emotions, behavioural patterns, and ways of relating to self and others.
I have experience working with issues, though not limited to, such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, abuse, loneliness, loss, relationship and family related issues, emotional regulation, low self-esteem, identity, work-related stress and burnout, and life transitions.
My therapeutic approach is somewhat eclectic and I integrate different theoretical styles to fit the situation, the issue, and you.
These include:
Acceptance and Commitment (ACT)
Attachment-based
Cognitive Behavioural (CBT)
Compassion Focused
Culturally Sensitive
Emotionally Focused
Existential
Gestalt
Humanistic
Integrative
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Narrative Therapy
Person-Centered
Reality Therapy
Trauma Focused
I received a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Psychology at Carleton University, and my Master of Education in Counselling Psychology degree from the University of Ottawa. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (#009883) and a Certified Canadian Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (#4912).
I have worked in the mental health field since 2003, working in research, providing test and assessments services, and working with individuals experiencing a variety of mental health issues and their caregivers.
