FAQ
Are fees covered by OHIP or other insurance companies? . . .
While psychotherapy is not covered by OHIP, it is covered by several extended health benefits. You will have to contact your benefits service provider to ask if services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist are covered by your plan.
What is your cancellation policy? . . .
We require a minimum of 24 hours notice in order for you to avoid paying for a scheduled session. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, you will be charged the full session fee.
How long do psychotherapy sessions last and how frequently do I need to come? . . .
Sessions are 50 minutes in length. Initially, sessions occur on a weekly basis. Once therapy has progressed, sessions may move to a bi-weekly basis.
How do I get the most out of therapy? . . .
Therapy is a good investment in your self and your future. To get the most out of your sessions, it is most beneficial to be an active participant in the process. This involves sharing your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, asking questions, being reflective, and attending sessions regularly.
How long will it take before I feel some relief? . . .
The answer to this question varies depending on the individual and the scope of the challenges he or she is facing. Some individuals are able to make shifts and feel some relief quickly upon beginning therapy, while for others noticeable changes take longer.
What if my symptoms get worse after I start therapy? . . .
Some people experience an increase in distress at the beginning of therapy as they begin to talk openly about difficult feelings that are beginning to surface. If this is the case for you, your therapist will work with you to help you effectively manage this phase of therapy so that you can benefit from the relief that is likely to follow as therapy progresses.
How do I know if I need therapy? . . .
If you have found your way to this page, or are asking yourself this question, it is likely that something is on your mind. If it is causing you distress, discomfort, or impacting you in some way, therapy can be a helpful way to process what's going on and help you move through it. No issue is too small for therapy. Clients come see me for reasons that range from daily life stressors to trauma.
How long do I need to attend therapy?. . .
This is highly dependent on the client and varies from person to person. In the initial session, we will talk about the reasons that brought you to therapy and discuss your goals. On average, people generally attend 6-12 sessions, although it can be more or less depending on your individual needs and circumstances. You never sign a contract and are able to end therapy at any time. We will also discuss termination throughout the process as we work towards your goals.
Is therapy confidential?. . .
Yes! Everything that we talk about remains confidential. Before the first session, you will read through the confidentiality agreement and consent form that will provide you with all of the information you need to know about the therapy process and the services offered. It will also outline the limits to confidentiality which are a set of circumstances where confidentiality may be breached. We will go over these in detail together and I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have during our first session together.
Do you diagnose mental health disorders?. . .
No, as a Registered Psychotherapist, I am not licensed or trained to make diagnoses. If you are interested in this type of assessment, I recommend you speak to a Physician, Psychologist, or Psychiatrist. Depending on what type of assessment is needed, I may be able to refer you to an appropriate service provider.
